We met Carla Lippis and her guitarist/husband Geoff Crowther during the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and it was love at first sight.
Carla and Geoff were in town with their first ever Edinburgh Fringe show, Baby Carla’s Bad Girl Rumble, and our mutual friend, cabaret goddess Ali McGregor, introduced us. We became pals instantly and as far as we’re concerned, it was a match made in heaven — not just because we were completely blown away by Carla’s voice.
Ah yes, her voice. After seeing her 2016 show, I described it as “liquid fire, gun smoke and the kind of sex that David Lynch characters called Audrey Horne have”, and I think that holds. So as you can imagine, we were incredibly excited when Carla asked us if we’d produce her new show Cast a Dark Shadow.

Lou Reed and Nancy Sinatra hand-in-hand on a desert death trip; Suicide and The Ventures jamming long into the night in a rickety old house; the angelic tones of Connie Francis drifting through the fevered dreams of David Lynch. Incorporating originals and re-contextualised classics, Carla deconstructs rock’n’roll into a haunting cabaret format.
With Geoff and EastEnd Cabaret’s Vicky Falconer-Pritchard providing an esoteric accompaniment, including guitar, keyboards, theremin, and vintage drum machines, expect cabaret at its most unorthodox.
This new and critically acclaimed show launched at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2017.

A bit about Carla…
Originally from Australia but based in London, Carla’s career as a singer has covered everything from alt-country (The Martial Hearts) to indie rock (The Rules).
Following a string of appearances at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Carla toured Italy with Sacri Cuori, alongside Tom Wait’s guitarist Marc Ribot. Their subsequent E.P. ‘Florida’ saw her duet with alt-country sensation M. Ward, and perform alongside Calexico and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
A new addition to London’s West End, Carla has appeared as part of The Black Cat Cabaret and featured with Joey Arias in her recent residency at Crazy Coqs.
